The Heysen Trail is not just for those hiking from end to end, but also for people interested in half-day or full day hikes. Listed below are the best short walks available along parts of the Heysen Trail.
17 Short Walks on the Heysen Trail
Walking SA has compiled a list of 17 short walks along the Heysen Trail.
Mylor-Aldgate Circuit
8-9kms, about 2-3 hours. Walk some little known tracks around Aldgate Creek using the Bandicoot Trail and linking with back roads to the Heysen Trail as it parallels the Strathalbyn Road and then traversing the Mylor Conservation Park.
Trezona Track
This walk is in the Flinders Ranges and is on Map 6.5 of the Heysen Trail Northern Guide and is about a 15km walk.
Tanunda loop walk
Involves a walk down the main street and past the cellar doors of two wineries. As you probably know the Heysen Trail makes a quick entry and exit from Tanunda’s main street and doesn’t go past any of the wineries in the Barossa Valley allowing walkers to utilize their cellar door facilities. This walk remedies that failing.
Mt Lofty loop walk
A circuit on the Heysen Trail taking in the Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens, the winding fire tracks of Cleland Conservation Park, and the summit of Mt Lofty.
