SUMMARY:Broadview - Woolshed Flat - Quorn
DESCRIPTION:This weekend will be based in Quorn\n\nNOTE –If you wish to walk on only one day\, please contact the FOHT office (once bookings have opened) to register for that day’s walk. The on–line registrationsystem will only allow you to register for both days\n\nAny walker with Respiratory symptoms or fever should exclude themselves from any activity until they have received a negative COVID result\, irrespective of Vaccine Status. Removed seeds should be bagged and disposed in a RED garbage bin.\n\nSATURDAY 28th AUGUST\n\nAfter the 3 klms walk-in to rejoin the Trail\, it heads north climbing through grazing land and native scrublands up to Mt Brown. The summit provides spectacular views of the northern Spencer Gulf\, especially from the viewing tower. A picturesque largely single file descent leads down to a classic Flinders Ranges creek walk along Waukarie Creek. The final ascent to Mt Brown includes some scrambling over rocks.\n\nOverall a fairly tough but rewarding walk.\n\nSUNDAY 29th AUGUST\n\nA steady climb to start the day takes walkers to the top of the range and views over Pichi Richi Pass. After a tricky section following the ridgeline for a few kilometres the trail descends into the Pass again. Much of the remainder of the walk is spent alongside or near the historic Pichi Richi railway line\, passing remnants of deserted sidings and settlements. After crossing over the Pt Augusta Road the final section is a gentle walk through grazing land and may provide glimpses of a small herd of Camels.\n\nDinner on Saturday night will be in Quorn at Emily’s Bistro at 6.15pm.\n\nThe theme for the weekend is Cinema and Movie Stars – in recognition of the many films that have been shot around Quorn.

The second group of walkers will start half an hour later\, regrouping with the first group at the cairn near the summit. After a quick morning tea the group will continue as usual.\n\nDon’t forget to bring a headlamp or torch for the early morning start\n\nSUNDAY 27th JUNE\n\nA leisurely walk\, predominantly along gently undulating backroads through pleasant farmland surrounds before finishing in the shadows of Mt Remarkable at Melrose passing an ancient red river gum with perhaps the largest bole on the Trail and the tall stone tower of once prominent Jacka Brewery.\n\nDinner on the Saturday evening will be at  the Mt Remarkable Hotel  from 6.00pm. I have reserved  places for up to 45 diners. The management have asked for us to be on time or earlier as our group will be first sitting for the evening. DESCRIPTION:NOTE – If you wish to walk on only one day\, please contact the FOHT office (once bookings have opened) to register for that day’s walk. The online registration system will only allow you to register for both days.\n\nThis weekend heralds the beginning of our journey north into the Flinders Ranges.\n\nPlease note the order of these walks will be reversed to enable an earlier finish on Sunday prior to everyones drive home.\n\nPlease remember to take plenty of water for each walk now that the weather is warming up\, especially on Saturday as it is a long demanding walk with few opportunities for the support vehicle to access the trail.\n\nSATURDAY 19th OCTOBER\n\nA fantastic and testing walk commences with a steady climb along Mills Rd up to Beetaloo Creek campsite. From here the trail heads up to the ridgeline for an approx. 12 klm up & down trekking to the Bluff(it just doesn’t seem to get closer). After leaving the Bluff the trail continues another few kilometres on the ridgeline to where we exit down Bluff Road onto Wirrabara Forest Road for the final 3 kilometre trudge back to the cars.\n\nThroughout the walk there are some spectacular views to the east over Beetaloo Valley & beyond\, and to the west over Spencer Gulf.In every sense a tough but rewarding walk.\n\nSUNDAY 20th OCTOBER\n\nBeginning with a pleasant walk along the Crystal Brook after leaving Bowman Park\, criss-crossing the brook between often steep sides and many rocky outcrops\, before passing through a narrow gorge to Hughes Gap & the nearby storage tanks for the Morgan-Whyalla pipeline. From there the walk follows a series of country roads\, often providing wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.\n\nDinner on Saturday night will at the Laura North Hotel from 6.15-6.30pm.\n\nThe theme for the evening will be the seventies. Take inspiration from the Music\, Dress or Events of the era to celebrate another wonderful season of walking along the Trail.

DESCRIPTION:A picturesque walk through gently undulating farmlsnd and the northern blocks of Kuitpo Forest. The trail normally passes through the historic Jupiter Goldfields\, however due to storm damage a re-route now bypasses them.\n\nOverall\, while a quite long walk it is a relatively comfortable walk with no real hills\, a far cry from the next few sections of the trail which will provide more testing hills for us to enjoy.
