SUMMARY:Mayo Gorge to Parachilna Gorge
DESCRIPTION:End to End 6 commenced walking the Heysen Trail on Sunday 17 April 2011 with 49 walkers. This is the final set of walks ending at the Parachilna Trailhead on Saturday 27 August 2016.\n\nThis is a multi-day walk. Registration requires payment of the END TO END EXTENDED WALK FEE. If you don’t have a Golden Boots card you will also be required to pay the daily walk fee ($8 x 6 walks).  Accommodation and meal costs are not included. Those registering are invited to travel on the bus\, at no extra cost\, from Adelaide to Rawnsley Park and return. If you choose to drive your own vehicle to the base location at Rawnsley Park the bus fee remains the same. Accommodation and meal arrangements are the responsibility of each person registering. \n\nGroup meals are planned for –\n\nWEDNESDAY 24 AUGUST – BBQ at the camp kitchen at Rawnsley Park Caravan Park.  Please bring a salad or dessert to share.  A geologist will give a talk about the area (gold coin donation).\n\nSATURDAY 27 AUGUST – Woolshed Restaurant – 2 courses – $48 – please book and pay when registering.  Dress – Dressy.\n\nIf you are unable to walk for the specified 6 walk days comprising this multi-day event and you still wish to register\, contact the Friends’ office during operating hours.\n\nBASE LOCATION: RAWNSLEY PARK – http://www.rawnsleypark.com.au/\n\nSATURDAY 20 AUGUST\n\nFor those travelling by bus\, the departure time is 9.30 am from the Central Bus Station\, 85 Franklin Street\, Adelaide. Please be at the bus station at 9.00 am for loading.   Additional pickup at Port Wakefield Road in front of City Dismantlers at Bus Stop 26 at about 9.45 am. ETA Rawnsley Park is 4.30 pm\n\nSUNDAY 21 AUGUST (Walk 1) – MT LITTLE STATION TO MORALANA DRIVE\n\nThis long section of the Trail (just over 30 kms) follows picturesque Mernmerna Creek and Slaty Creek to the Red Range campsite. After which it becomes a pretty walk with gentle undulations\, along creeklines and through native pine woodlands\, in the shadow of Elder Range and Mt Aleck.\n\nMONDAY 22 AUGUST (Walk 2) – MORALANA DRIVE TO WILPENA\n\nThis is one of the very special walks of the Trail\, starting with a pretty creek walk through Black Gap\, before climbing the Pound Range to Bridle Gap\, where a look back provides spectacular views of Elder Range. Entering Flinders Range National Park\, it is a pleasant stroll across Wilpena Pound to complete the day.\n\nTUESDAY 23 AUGUST (Walk 3) – WILPENA TO BUNYEROO\n\nThis walk is entirely within the Flinders Ranges National Park with much of the day spent following the Wilcolo Track between the ABC range and the towering peaks of Wilpena Pound.\n\nWEDNESDAY 24 AUGUST – REST DAY\n\nTHURSDAY 25 AUGUST (Walk 4) – BUNYEROO TO TREZONA\n\nIn this section walkers climb from Bunyeroo Valley\, up to Yanyanna Hut\, passing several vantage points along the way that provide superb photo opportunities of the ranges behind. Continuing along Yanyanna Track\, the trail passes old settlers’ huts before entering the geologically significant Trezona area.\n\nFRIDAY 26 AUGUST (Walk 5) – TREZONA TO AROONA HUT\n\nThis section starts with a pleasant walk along Brachina and Enorama Creeks past the Golden Spike and other significant geological sites\, before climbing to cross the ABC Range\, where spectacular views of the Heysen Range unfold.\n\nSATURDAY 27 AUGUST (Walk 6) – AROONA HUT TO PARACHILNA GORGE\n\nThis final section of the trail follows Aroona Valley to the watershed dividing it from the Parachilna Creek catchment to the north. It then follows the valley between ABC Range and Heysen Range\, past abandoned mines to the final stile at the Parachilna Trailhead. This walk is a pleasant amble\, perfect for reflecting on the years and kilometres taken to get here\, and the friendships made along the way.\n\nThere will be a celebration at the end of the walk followed by a celebration dinner at the Woolshed Restaurant. Dress is ‘dressy casual’.\n\nSUNDAY 28 AUGUST\n\nBus returns to Adelaide leaving Rawnsley Park at 8.30 am.\n\nETA Adelaide – 3.30 pm approx\n\nTHEME – Red shirt for the final day’s walk.

Please be at the bus station by 9.00 am for loading.\n\nSUNDAY 5 JUNE (WALK 1) – QUORN TO DUTCHMANS STERN\n\nThis section of the trail passes the outskirts of Quorn before climbing gradually towards Dutchmans Stern.  A side trip to walk the Dutchmans Stern loop walk will provide a memorable highlight of this walk.\n\nMONDAY 6 JUNE (WALK 2) – DUTCHMANS STERN TO EYRE DEPOT\n\nThis is a deceptively tough walk with a bit of everything – undulating firetracks with spectacular views\, a rocky gorge and a gibber strewn floodplain.\n\nTUESDAY 7 JUNE (WALK 3) – EYRE DEPOT TO BUCKARINGA\n\nAfter climbing back into the range\, walkers enter Mount Arden Creek which winds its way northwards. The gradual climb up the winding creek bed with its waterfalls and rocky sections can make progress very slow\, but after Mt Arden South campsite the trail leaves the creek to climb Mt Arden summit for spectacular 360 degree views. The trail then follows the ridgeline and a pretty creekline to exit at Buckaringa.\n\nWEDNESDAY 8 JUNE – REST DAY – Dinner at Emily’s Bistro\n\nTHURSDAY 9 JUNE – RELOCATE BASE LOCATION TO HAWKER – Thursday 9 – Monday 13 June (Walks 4\, 5\, 6 & 7)\n\nTHURSDAY 9 JUNE (WALK 4) – JARVIS HILL TO LEIGH CREEK ROAD\n\nOne of the gems of the Trail\, this ridge walk provides spectacular views and many photo opportunities. It is a short walk\, but may still take up to 4 hours because of the terrain and photo stops.\n\nFRIDAY 10 JUNE (WALK 5) – BUCKARINGA TO CALABRINDA CREEK\n\nThis is a predominantly flat walk below rocky outcrops. The trail then leads across Willochra Plain to Partacoona Station.\n\nSATURDAY 11 JUNE (WALK 6) – CALABRINDA CREEK TO JARVIS HILL\n\nThis is a long but fairly fast walk\, initially along vehicle tracks\, then over open grazing land along the face of Yappala Range and past the historic Mt Elm school site to Jarvis Hill carpark.\n\nSUNDAY 12 JUNE (WALK 7) – LEIGH CREEK ROAD TO MT LITTLE STATION\n\nA classic Flinders Ranges creek walk\, the whole day is spent in Wonoka Creek which has been the site of a couple of major floods in recent years.\n\nDINNER at Hawker Community Sports Centre\n\nMONDAY 13 JUNE\n\nBus returns to Adelaide leaving Hawker at 8.30 am.\n\nETA Adelaide – 3.00 pm approx

SUMMARY:Broadview to Woolshed Flat to Quorn based in Quorn
DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY 19 SEPTEMBER\n\nThis section of the trail climbs through grazing land and natural scrub to Mount Brown\, where walkers are provided with spectacular views of the northern Spencer Gulf from the viewing tower. A pretty single file descent leads to Waukarie Creek and a classic Flinders Ranges creek walk.\n\nSUNDAY 20 SEPTEMBER\n\nA steady climb to start the day takes walkers to the top of the range and views over Pichi Richi Pass. After following the ridgeline for a few kilometres the trail descends into the pass again.  The Trail follows the historic Pichi Richi railway line\, passing the remnants of deserted sidings and settlements.\n\nTHEME – ‘Q’\n\nNOTE – If you wish to walk on only one day\, please contact the FOHT office to register for that day. SUMMARY:Alligator Gorge Road to Broadview based in Quorn
DESCRIPTION:These walks will be done out of sequence so that the longer day can be walked on Saturday.\n\nSATURDAY 29 AUGUST\n\nThis is a tough walk starting with a climb out of Horrocks Pass to the ridge\, then an undulating walk over exposed gibber littered hills. Walkers are rewarded though with views over the Willochra Plain. \n\nSUNDAY 30 AUGUST\n\nThe trail initially leads over Lavender Peak to picturesque Stony Creek campsite. SUMMARY:Murraytown to Alligator Gorge Road based in Melrose
DESCRIPTION:These walks will be done out of sequence so that the longer day can be walked on Saturday.\n\nSATURDAY 15 AUGUST 2015\n\nThis is a very long and difficult (but memorable) section of the Trail that starts with the ascent of Mt Remarkable.  Stop occasionally to take in the views over the Willochra Plain and watch out for the wreckage of a light plane on a scree slope about 3/4 of the way up. The Trail continues through Mt Remarkable Conservation Park before emerging on Alligator Gorge Road.\n\nSUNDAY 16 AUGUST 2015\n\nA leisurely walk\, predominantly along lightly undulating back roads\, this section provides pleasant vistas over the surrounding farmland and finishes in the shadow of Mt Remarkable.\n\nTHEME – 1950s\n\nNOTE – If you wish to walk on only one day\, please contact the FOHT office to register for that day. SUMMARY:Wirrabara Forest to Murraytown.  Based in Melrose
DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY 18 JULY 2015\n\nThis section provides a very diverse range of scenery\, beginning with the dense natural scrub\, ridgelines and spectacular vistas of the Telowie Gorge Conservation Park\, then descending to a narrow single file track along a very pretty creek line\, before emerging into walk alongside pine forests.\n\nSUNDAY 19 JULY 2015\n\nThis section starts in the Wirrabara pine forest where there are some testing climbs. SUMMARY:Bowman Park to Wirrabara Forrest
DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY 20 JUNE 2015\n\nThis begins as a pleasant walk along the Crystal Brook\, past the southern most hills of the Flinders Ranges. After the main road crossing at Hughes Gap\, the trail follows the top of the range along gravel roads\, providing views over Port Pirie and Spencer Gulf.\n\nSUNDAY 21 JUNE 2015\n\nFor most of this section the trail follows gravel roads and a rollercoaster fire track through natural bushland towards the TV tower at The Bluff where walkers are rewarded with spectacular views of Spencer Gulf and beyond.\n\nTHEME – GOLDEN NORTH\n\nNOTE – If you wish to walk on only one day\, please contact the FOHT office to register for that day. DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY 16 MAY 2015\n\nThis walk follows dirt roads into the small town of Georgetown and beyond past Hiskeys Hut. The trail then follows undulating fencelines through Sams Hills.\n\nSUNDAY 17 MAY 2015\n\nAn easy walk\, predominantly along roads and road reserves\, this section takes us through the town of Crystal Brook\, then follows the Crystal Brook itself to historic Bowman Park.\n\nTHEME – The theme for Saturday night\, 17 May\, is anything that begins with “G”. After leaving the channels at the weir it follows Never Never Creek past remnant Yacca forests and grazing land towards Bundaleer Forest.\n\nSUNDAY 3 MAY 2015\n\nThis is a diverse walk through native scrub\, Bundaleer pine forest and farmland.  The ridgetops and testing climbs reward walkers with spectacular panoramic views.\n\nTHEME – Jail breakers\n\nACCOMMODATION – Unfortunately the Gladstone Gaol is unavailable so you will need to arrange your own accommodation for the weekend. \n\nNOTE – If you wish to walk on only one day\, please contact the FOHT office to register for that day. When registering for the walk please advise whether you will be staying at the Gaol.  The cells in the gaol have 2 single beds and there are ample cells to have sole use of a cell if you wish.  Cost per person is $20 p.n. byo bedding or $25 p.n. with bedding provided. SUMMARY:Newikie Creek to Dares Hill Summit Road and Spalding Road to Chlorinator. Based in Jamestown
DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY 20 SEPTEMBER\n\nDue to the bad road conditions this walk had to be abandoned on 17 August. This walk has been rescheduled to this weekend.\n\nThis section passes through Caroona Conservation Park and Tourilie Gorge\, which is one of the lesser known gems of the Trail. SUMMARY:Dares Hill Summit Road to Hallett and EE George Quarry to Spalding Road. Based in Burra
DESCRIPTION:Due to the road conditions the walk on 17 August had to be abandoned. In its place the group did the Hallett to EE George Quarry walk.  Hence the walks for this weekend have been rescheduled.\n\nSATURDAY 30 AUGUST\n\nThe trail takes walkers past the historic Mt Bryan East School\, before beginning the climb up Mt Bryan\, which is the highest point of the Mt Lofty Ranges. Walkers are rewarded with panoramic views of the Mid-North from the summit and as they descend through grazing and farming land towards Hallett.\n\nSUNDAY 31 AUGUST\n\nAlthough progressing northwards along the trail\, most of this walk is spent walking south!  We follow The Stone Wall – an old station boundary\, and the longest dry stone wall in SA – for 12km south\, along Brown Hill Range. SUMMARY:Wandallah to Newikie Creek to Dares Hill Summit Road. Based in Burra
DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY 16 AUGUST\n\nThis remote section of the Heysen Trail gives walkers their first introduction to the grazing lands beyond Goyders Line. After Wandallah Shelter walking is undulating until turning east toward Sugar Loaf Range. The track then turns to the north where Newikie Creek is reached via White Hill Road and Black Jack Shelter. This is an exposed and undulating walk with some very nice views.\n\nSUNDAY 17 AUGUST\n\nThis section passes through Caroona Conservation Park and Tourilie Gorge\, which is one of the lesser known gems of the Trail. Look out for the remnants of an old bullock track cut through the gorge. \n\nSATURDAY EVENING MEAL – The Farrell Flat Community Management Committee will cater for the meal.  They raise funds for the town assets\, social activities and future planning.  The committee has representatives from all the groups in the Farrell Flat community. A sharp climb after Huppatz Hut provides us with a taste of things to come in future walks.\n\nSUNDAY 15 JUNE\n\nA short walk across paddocks to the crossing of the Morgan-Whyalla pipeline is followed by an interesting walk through an area of the Halleluja Hills before reaching Worlds End Road. Once off this road\, we finish the day’s walking near the Burra Gorge Campground.\n\nSATURDAY EVENING MEAL – The Burra Community School will cater for the meal. DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY 17 May: A pleasant walk along back roads through undulating farmland and past the town of Marrabel (and it’s memorial to the famous buckjumper “Curio”) to the southern end of Tothill Range.\n\nSUNDAY 18 May: After a climb through Gerkie Gap to the eastern side\, this walk hugs the Tothill Ranges\, before climbing back over the range\,just north of Smith Hill\, where we continue the journey northward through open scrubland along the western flank of the range. The Tothills provide the largest remaining section of remnant scrub in the area and are one of the delights of the Mid North providing pleasant vistas over the surrounding farmland\, with constant reminders of 19th century optimism and 21st century technology.\n\nNOTE – If you wish to walk on only one day\, please contact the FOHT office to register for that day. DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY: From Kapunda we head northwest along backroads and tracks to Black Joes Road\, then mainly north along fence lines and tracks to the old telephone exchange at the crossroads.  The walk is over undulating mainly open country of the lower North Mount Lofty Ranges.\n\nSUNDAY: A pleasant walk along back roads and road reserves of open scrubland. After the short walk up Peters Hill\, walkers are rewarded with pretty vistas over the farmlands of the Lower North.  We will take a short detour to visit Marshalls Hut.\n\nNOTE – If you wish to walk on only one day\, please contact the FOHT office to register for that day. DESCRIPTION:The trail initially follows forest edges and roadsides\, before the climb up and over pretty Wirra Wirra Peaks\, then descends to creek lines again. After the mandatory detour to visit Freemans Hut\, we follow farm tracks and fire tracks through spectacular open big gum grazing land. Quiet dirt roads and a tree studded road reserve complete the day.

Open grazing land with panoramic views follows\, before heading back into the forest.
