SUMMARY:Waitpinga
DESCRIPTION:A slowish walk to enjoy the rugged cliffs and bush land of Newland Head Conservation Park. \nStarting the walk on a section of the Heysen Trail we reach the rugged headlands of the park\, where with weather permitting there is spectacular views along the coast line. The rocky undulating track has us in and out of valleys surrounded by coastal vegetation to climb again to view the sea. This section of the walk requires the ability to be able to climb up and down steep and rocky hills. \nLeaving the coast behind we walk inland with wide open views of farming land on the right and bush land to the left. A sharp turn takes us into the bush with wattle trees and many other flowering wildflowers. In this area we will be looking for orchids which are often spotted here. Continuing through the park\, once more there will be views of the sea before returning to our cars. \nPlease note if the weather is bad on the day the walk will not go to the coast and will be shortened to around 7km.

DESCRIPTION:A lovely walk taking in sections of Old Kersbrook Forest and the Blue Gum and Mack Creek tracks of Para Wirra Conservation Park. \nThe walk follows a range of trails – including well made fire tracks\, shared trails and a narrower\, more secluded track along Mack Creek. \nThe terrain is reasonably flat although there is a gentle descent into and ascent out of the creek. We will walk through blue gums and later box and pink gum forests.

SUMMARY:Belair National Park
DESCRIPTION:A loop walk incorporating several of the shared use trails in the park.  We will pass through Echo Tunnel\, so a torch or headlamp will be an advantage.  We will also view Upper and Lower Waterfalls\, which have been spectacular during our wet winter. Old Government House and the State Flora Nursery are also on the intended route.  The route may be changed or shortened in the event of inclement weather.  Hazards include muddy tracks\, slippery rocks when wet\, and kamikaze cyclists (your leader almost had a collision with one while checking out the route). Walking poles will be an advantage\, and good quality walking boots are necessary.  Koalas\, kangaroos and even emus have been sighted on the route by the leader.  Birdlife is prolific.  The walk leader can be contacted on 0421 177 822 should it be necessary in the event of late arrival or illness on the day.  The walk will finish within 4 hours should all things go well on the day.

SUMMARY:Lobethal Bushland Pk
DESCRIPTION:Pleasant circular walk in Lobethal Bushland Park just outside of Lobethal. The trails in the park were through heritage-listed bush but the park was burnt out in the December 2019 Adelaide Hills bush fire. Through the care of passionate volunteers\, the park has been remarked and is showing signs of incredible regrowth. There are also exciting signs that kangaroos\, echidnas and bird life are returning. We will walk through trails which have been burnt\, but there are wonderful signs of regrowth on some of the trees and also the undergrowth. Slopes are mostly gradual. A good walk for new walkers and families\, with toilets and a picnic/bbq area at walk completion.

There\, on a clear day\, we have views south-east over the Murray’s Lower Lakes and to the west over the Onkaparinga Valley to Mount Lofty. Track is along the verge of some minor country roads until we reach the Conservation Reserve where the path is through open woodland. Here the understory is low shrubs and we should see native orchids and a variety of bulbous plants in flower.

SUMMARY:Adelaide Parklands South
DESCRIPTION:The Adelaide Park Lands Trail is a series of connected walking and cycling trails that loop through or are adjacent to 27 parks and other historical locations within central Adelaide and North Adelaide. Using the River Torrens as a bisector allows the trail to be divided into a Southern Loop and a Northern Loop\, which allows for more manageable walking distances over 2 days. \nThis walk will complete the Southern Loop of the trail (16km). The walk to complete the Northern Loop (9km) will take place on Sunday\, 31st October 2021 (refer to the Walk Calendar to register separately for the Northern Loop event). \nWhile city walking on a variety of flat bitumen\, paved and unsealed paths will not appeal to everyone\, these two events provide a great opportunity to walk a full loop of Adelaide while enjoying the park lands and other historical locations that make it such a unique city. \nWhile this is not a difficult walk\, it’s a long walk so wear appropriate clothing and footwear and carry sufficient water for the conditions on the day. Bring snacks / lunch to have at a couple of breaks along the way.
