SUMMARY:Women's Pioneer Trail
DESCRIPTION:The Pioneer Women’s Trail is a track that was used in the 1800’s for the women and girls to make the trip on foot to Adelaide where they would sell their produce. They would carry baskets of vegetables and dairy produce\, and after selling it in Adelaide\, they would return with their purchases and two bricks each for building their church.\n\nThis walk is along country roads\, laneways\, and trails through the Adelaide Hills including Bridgewater and along Cox Creek. We pass through Mt George and Cleland Conservation Parks before descending to Beaumont House.\n\nThere are a number of up and down sections for this walk.\n\nThis walk involves bus transport – please ensure that you use hand sanitizer prior to boarding and wear a face mask throughout the bus trip. Please note that the bus is not optional\, this must be paid for as part of the registration.\n\nBIOSECURITY MEASURES – Please ensure you thoroughly clean your footwear\, clothing\, walking poles and other equipment before and after each walk to remove all seeds\, dirt and other debris. Removed seeds should be bagged and disposed in a ‘to landfill’ garbage bin.

SUMMARY:Inman Valley to Myponga
DESCRIPTION:The Heysen Trail walks are demanding and suitable for experienced walkers who have walked regularly in various terrain consisting of long-distance trails with some steep inclines/declines\, irregular surface with loose uneven\, slippery base. They have a walking time of about 5 to 7 hours and will require a high degree of physical fitness.\n\nMajestic gums line roadsides leading to the testing climb up Sugarloaf Hill where walkers are rewarded with spectacular rural views. The trail then leads into Myponga Conservation Park for more views and some testing undulations. Pretty farmland and quiet country roads complete this section. This is a reasonably tough 19kms so Trail Walker level experience and fitness is required.

SUMMARY:Stirling to Lofty Loop
DESCRIPTION:A hybrid walk to round off my walking season. Some urban streets mixed with some walking in Cleland. Road side walking and bush trails. And some quirky little laneways thrown in for good measure. A loop starting in Stirling that works its way up to Lofty Summit (The Heysen Route}. Then down through Cleland and returning to Stirling via Crafers.\n\nNo toilet stops between Stirling and the Summit {residents would prefer that you didn’t use their front garden} so consider visiting the public toilets at Steamroller Park next to the first roundabout in Stirling before heading to the meeting point.\n\nMorning tea and facilities at the Summit before our return journey.\n\nMaybe consider coffee or lunch in Stirling after the walk. It’s a lovely little town.\n\n \n\n

SUMMARY:Horsnell Gully with a taste of Heysen
DESCRIPTION:This walk commences at the car park on Coach Road\, Horsnell Gully. There are spectacular views over Adelaide from the carpark. Coach Road was the principal road into Adelaide from the east during the 1870s and 1880s. There was a coach gate located on the highest point of ‘Coach Hill’\, which is known today as the suburb of Skye. The driver blew a trumpet to tell the settlers that he had been through the gate and they had to climb up to close it. Near the spot where the power lines cross Coach Road\, there was a hut for a ‘team’s keeper’ who kept fresh horses for the coaches. \nFrom the car park we walk along Coach Road for a short distance before dipping down into Gandy’s Gully. From there it climbs to meet up with the Heysen Trail. We follow the Heysen Trail down to the Giles ruins and the reed beds. At Giles we visit three cottages\, ‘Faith’\, ‘Hope’ and ‘Charity’ and the reed beds for morning tea. These cottages were built by Charles Giles and John Horsnell in the 1840s so are in need of some maintenance. At the junction of the two creeks they established The Reedbeds\, an area cultivated by three gardeners and their families who lived in the cottages. A slate-lined channel helped direct waters from the creek into The Reedbeds. Hornsell established a nursery and home called ‘Grove Hill’ nearby at Norton Summit. \nAfter the ruins we have a bit of climbing to do along the Heysen Trail. This is a lovely section of the Heysen Trail and is renowned for its wildflowers. \nFrom here we head to Horsnell Gully Conservation Park with more interesting ruins with helpful information panels that may be perused by those interested in history during a lunch break. John Horsnell\, once coachman to Governor Gawler\, settled the gully in 1842\, establishing market gardens and orchards of walnut\, Osage orange and olive trees – remnants of which can still be seen today. He established an English cottage garden that included roses\, violets and agapanthus\, and the first dairy in South Australia. In 1860-61\, a house of local sandstone was built and\, at one time\, housed 14 children. The house remains and a coach house\, stable and milking shed can also be found nearby. These ruins are well maintained and represent one of the earliest farms in the area. \nAfter lunch the fun part of the walk includes a clamber up a waterfall (be prepared some crawling on hands and knees). \nContact me on the day on 0400320943 if necessary.

SUMMARY:Cobbler Hill to Tapanappa
DESCRIPTION:This walk is usually the 2nd walk done by E2E groups on their Heysen Trail journey but as with all sections of the Heysen trail they are great walks to do anytime. Although relatively short\, this section of the Heysen trail offers spectacular scenery\, including a magnificent waterfall\, as walkers follow narrow tracks through the dense native scrub of Deep Creek Conservation Park\n\nBeing the second walk of the E2Es\, one of the reasons it is being run again is not only because it is a lovely walk for everyone to do\, but also to assist people that have joined an E2E further up the trail to allow them to get this walk in as a catch-up.  If you are needing this walk as a catch-up walk can you please email Mark Fletcher by clicking the name in red below and let me know which E2E you are on before the walk opens for bookings.

SUMMARY:Cape Jervis to Cobbler Hill
DESCRIPTION:This walk starts from the Cape Jervis Heysen Trail trailhead\, this section follows sandy coastal tracks and exposed coastal hillsides\, providing spectacular views over Backstairs Passage to Kangaroo Island. Walkers are sometimes rewarded with sightings of seals and dolphins. At Blowhole Beach the trail enters Deep Creek Conservation Park to begin the long climb through native bushland to Cobbler Hill.\n\nThis is normally the first walk of E2Es and one of the reasons it is being run again is not only because it is a lovely walk for everyone to do\, but also to assist people that have joined an E2E further up the trail to allow them to get this walk in as a catch-up and thereby keeping spots free on the new E2Es for people wanting to commence their journey of the whole trail.  If you are needing this walk as a catch-up walk can you please email Mark Fletcher by clicking the name in red below and let me know which E2E you are on before the walk opens for bookings.

SUMMARY:Beaumont/Cleland via Botanic Gdns
DESCRIPTION:This walk is ideal for walkers who need to get a few kms into their legs. It is about 26kms and includes a few hills and rough tracks to improve your stamina and walking techniques. \n It takes in part of the Pioneers Womens Trail\, Mt. Lofty Botanic Gardens and Cleland Recreation Park. The up hills are out of the way by lunchtime leaving a gentle stroll back to the cars after that. \nWe will probably make Cleland Wildlife Reserve in time for lunch and a coffee. \nPoints of Interest: \n\n\n Pioneer Womens Trail – the ladies walked from Hahndorf to Adelaide 35kms carrying produce for sale and returning with thread\, sugar\, tea and bricks. They left Hahndorf at midnight and wash in stream near Beaumont at 4am before heading into the markets. From 1838 to 1850s. \n Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens\n Carminow – formerly “The Pinnacles” was built by Sir Thomas Elder in 1885\, and became the summer home of Sir Langdon Bonython (owner of “The Advertiser”) from 1902 and renamed after an ancestral property in Cornwall. Restored after a fire by George Lucey. \n\n\nContact me on the day on 0400320943 if necessary.
