SUMMARY:Walk The Yorke Moonta to Tiparra Springs and Tiparra Springs to Balgowan
DESCRIPTION:Walk The Yorke over two seasons starts 2026. All weekends are in the calendar for 2026 and will be open for registration on 21 March 26. This will enable walkers to arrange accommodation as two weekends are on long weekends. Future dates: 6-7 June; 11-12 July; 15-16 August; 12-13 Sept; 3-4 Oct 26\n\n \n\nDay 1 Walk The Yorke from Moonta Bay to Tiparra Springs is a 27.5 km walk along the coastline of the Yorke Peninsula.\n\nThe walk will take approximately 7 1/2 hours\, starting from Moonta. The walk will cross sand dunes within Tiparra Springs\, to exit the beach. The expansive view of the beach stretching from Nalyappa Point to The Gap is breathtaking. You will encounter rocky outcrops at Cape Elizabeth\, arriving at Coopers Beach for morning tea after passing through Port Hughes where the historic jetty is located. If you want to make the walk slightly shorter and you’re staying at Port Hughes\, we can meet you there at about 8:15 am. Monitoring the tides will be an aspect of the walk\, as there is some beach walking involved.\n\nCar shuffling will commence the evening before from Moonta Bay Jetty to Tiparra Springs\, to allow for an earlier start. We need up to five vehicles\, which will be left overnight on private land behind a locked gate. Please let the walk leader know if you are happy to be involved in the car shuffle.\n\nReturning to Moonta at approximately 4:30 pm with a group dinner at the Moonta Hotel. Please RSVP in the event page if you will be attending the dinner\, as we will need to book.\n\nDay 2 Walk the Yorke Tiparra Springs to Balgowan is approximately 19 km (5 hours)\n\nThe morning walk will cross sand dunes to the beach entrance. Weaving our way along the beach\, up to the cliff face tracks following the coastline to the small town of Balgowan. We may not follow the ‘official’ Walk the Yorke track\, as there are some beautiful trails along the cliff tops that we can explore\, arriving at Bamboos Campground and continuing to experience the spectacular red cliff faces. For those who look for camping away from the crowds\, there is a bush camp in Balgowan and a caravan park.\n\nCar shuffling will again be used to ferry us to Tiparra from Balgowan. We will meet in the morning at Balgowan.\n\nAccommodation: Cornwall Hotel Moonta has rooms available for approx $70\, with shared bathroom. There are cabins etc at Moonta Bay caravan park and Port Hughes caravan park.\n\nBIOSECURITY MEASURES – Please ensure you thoroughly clean your footwear\, clothing\, walking poles and other equipment before and after each walk to remove all seeds\, dirt and other debris. Removed seeds should be bagged and disposed in a ‘to landfill’ garbage bin.

SUMMARY:Walk The Yorke – Gym Beach-Pondalowie-Marion Bay
DESCRIPTION:Experience spectacular scenery along this section of the trail as we pass through the Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park. Details about how this can be done will be made available prior to the walk.\n\nSaturday…\n\nFrom Gym Beach we follow the Gym Beach Road inland for a few hundred metres before taking the Gym Beach Hiking Trail toward Browns Beach. This takes us through local scrub and vegetation\, skirting local farm lands.\n\nThe route continues inland along the road past the Shell Beach turnoff before heading to the coast at Royston Head and then on the beach to Pondalowie.\n\nSunday…\n\nToday’s section will be inland\, following fire trails through the thick untouched bush lands\, past one of the many lakes in the park to finish the day at Marion Bay.\n\nFrom Inneston to Stenhouse Bay it follows the Thomson-Pfizner Plaster Trail\, the route of  an old wooden railway line.\n\nInnes National Park from Gym Beach (Saturday and Sunday’s walks) is one of the Hero walks of the WTY.\n\nSuggested accommodation – Marion Bay.\n\nA dinner to celebrate completion of the Trail will be held on Saturday night. Monies for this will be collected as part of the registration.\n\nNOTE – If you wish to walk on only one day\, please contact the FOHT office (once bookings have opened) to register for that day’s walk. SUMMARY:Walk The Yorke – Pt Wakefield-Pt Arthur shelter-Price
DESCRIPTION:Note … this weekend’s walking is through an area without any shrubbery. It is suggested that walkers add an an artificial shrub to their pack … or perhaps an umbrella.\nAlso …. poles are highly recommended for this walk because parts of it will be quite slippery if there has been recent rain.\n\nSaturday…\n\nThis first section of the trail passes through world class samphire flags forming a unique ecosystem.\nWe pass the Clinton Conservation Park. Over 138 bird species have been recorded here.\nWhile the intertidal mudflats may seem an unappealing landscape\, the environment is quite diverse\, which is why it can support so many birds.\n\nSunday…\n\nThe WTY winds its way into the hilltop country\, passing historic sheep troughs and early settlers’ damming methods attempting to trap valuable water.\nThe trail follows roads through prime coastal farm land\, providing sneaky views of the coast and surrounding areas\, before dipping down into the historic township of of Clinton.\n\nPort Clinton to Price is one of the Hero walks of the WTY.\n\nDeparting Port Clinton the trail heads onto  the clifftop with majestic views over the mangrove forest of Clinton Conservation Park\, a significant site for migratory wading birds.\nFurther south the trail descends onto the flat behind the mangroves and adjacent samphire system. There are possible sightings of wombats through this area.\n\nSuggested accommodation – Ardrossan\n(Pt Clinton was previously suggested but workers at Pt Wakefield may have booked the place out)\n\nNOTE – If you wish to walk on only one day\, please contact the FOHT office (once bookings have opened) to register for that day’s walk. Cormorants\, Grey Herons\, Hooded Plovers and the rare Sooty and Pied Oystercatchers can all be seen wading along the shore.\nThe dunes also provide a habitat for many species of coastal plants and animals.\nPublic toilets are located at Moonta Bay and at Pt Hughes (the 24km mark and at the end of today’s walk).\n\nSunday has it all …\nVibrant red cliffs\, tranquil sheoak woodlands and crisp white sandy beaches with calm blue waters.\nThis peaceful and isolated environment is a haven for both woodland and coastal birdlife.\nPublic toilets are at the 7km mark and at the end of today’s walk.\n\nSuggested accommodation – Moonta Bay\n\nFor those interested in walking the complete WTY but unable to attend this weekend\, please email Peter Clark re the possibility of joining leaders when they reconnoiter this weekend’s walk.\n\nNOTE – If you wish to walk on only one day\, please contact the FOHT office (once bookings have opened) to register for that day’s walk. The on-line registration system will only allow you to register for both days.
