SUMMARY:Village in City - Walk the SE corner of Adelaide
DESCRIPTION:In the late 19th Century\, people from all social levels\n\nlived in the south eastern corner of the city. The wealthy\n\noccupied mansions on East and South Terrace\, the growing\n\nmiddle class lived in Victorian villas in Halifax and Gilles\n\nStreets\, while the intervening small cottages were filled by\n\nworkers who were able to walk to work or work from home.\n\nPastoralists\, government workers\, publicans\, policemen and\n\nplasterers all lived in close proximity. However in the 1920s\n\nand 1930s it became fashionable to move to the suburbs\n\non the other side of the south and east Park Lands.\n\nMeal to follow for those so entices at the General Havelock\n\nHotel.
