Description

Week five sees us based in the Jamestown-Spalding-Clare area, moving from the tribal territory of the Nukunu to that of the Ngadjuri.
It is not one for the unfit or the faint hearted.
You will need an above normal level of fitness.

Day 1 Raeville following the ridgeline via New Campbell Hill, and expansive views, to Curnow’s Hut
Day 2 From Curnow’s Hut to the Chlorinator Station along Never Never Creek and the northern end of the Bundaleer Reservoir intake channel.
Day 3 From the Chlorinator Station via Spalding along the southern intake channel for most of the day, ending at the Goyder Highway.
Day 4 Rest Day to explore the mid north.
Day 5 Goyder Highway to EE George Road taking in the longest dry stone wall in SA, along the Brown Hill Range, past one of the Trails most exposed camp sites, Whistling Trig.
Day 6 EE George Road to Hallett and the Trail’s only station hut, the Hallett Railway Station.
Day 7 Hallett to Dares Hill Summit Road via Mount Bryan, the windiest summit on the Trail, with spectacular views and one of the steepest descents on the Trail. We may have snow.

Undulating hills with a steady climb to New Campbell Hill with the reward being expansive views.

From Curnows, the Trail follows Never Never Creek past the Baderloo Camp site. The walk along the creek can be treacherous with black slippery mud until it joins the channels leading into the Bundaleer Reservoir.

An easy day, as the Trail climbs about 1 foot (in the old language) every mile (in the old language), however it is a long day, with Spalding providing a diversion at the half-way mark.

An up, down day along one of the windiest ridges of the Trail, passing Whistling Trip, one of the campsites the Friends installed. Keep you hat tied on for this one.

Today we descend off Brown Hill Range on the flatter country leading to Hallett. A long day, however easy walking compared with the previous one, though it is 20km!

This is a cracker of the day, with the western ascent of Mount Bryan, without oxygen.
The highest point on the Heysen Trail with 360 degree views, if the weather is kind.
Then comes the STEEP descent down to Mount Bryant East School and the half-way mark in our southerly trek.
