Inman Valley to Cobbler Hill

Walking from Cobbler Hill to Inman Valley on the Heysen Trail.

What to expect

** Please Note: This registration covers the first 5 days of walking from Inman Valley to Cobbler Hill. There is a separate registration for E2E-1’s last walk: Cobbler Hill to Cape Jervis and celebration dinner. **

This week is brought to you by the letter ‘C’.

Sun.18th: Some initial road walking gets us to Second Valley Forest coming out at Robinson Hill. Then we follow quiet country roads in Keen Road and Tugwell Road before some cross country and track walking to finish at Waitpinga Road.

Mon.19th: A mixture of scrub and road walking gets us to the coast at Kings Beach. We follow along the dramatic clifftops through Newland Head Conservation Park – probably the most picturesque and photographed section of the whole trail. The walk concludes at Waitpinga Beach.

Tue.20th: The first of our beach walks take us along Waitpinga Beach, then on to Parsons Beach. More coastal walking before we enter Balquhidder and head inland before finishing with some road walking.

Wed.21st: Rest Day. Optional activity helping Friends of Newland Head C.P. in the morning. Other activities To Be Advised.

Thu.22nd: We head across paddocks towards the coast where we will tackle the steepest descent on the Trail down to Tunkalilla Beach (it is no where near the 4km monster it used to be). At Boat Harbor Beach we enter the Deep Creek Conservation Park and its characteristic dense bushland before opening out on the ridge near Tapanappa Campground for far-reaching views.

Fri.23rd: A spectacular walk through Deep Creek Conservation Park includes the waterfall with dense bushland and stunning coastal views. Lots of ups and downs today all the way to Cobbler Hill.

NOTE – If you wish to walk 1, 2, 3 or 4 days, please contact the FOHT office to register for those days. The online registering system will only allow you to register for all 5 walking days.

Walk difficulty: End-to-End Minus 1

These walks are for those wishing to walk some or all of the Heysen Trail. There are approximately sixty day walks involved, spread over six years. The southern walks, from Cape Jervis to Kapunda, are held on one Sunday per month during the walk season. Due to the greater travelling distances involved, from Kapunda northwards, the walk is held over a weekend.

These arrangements make it easy to walk the entire trail because the Friends of Heysen Trail work out many of the logistics.

These walks are reasonably demanding and for walkers who have walked regularly in various terrain. They have a walking time of about 5 to 6 hours and will require a high degree of physical fitness.

Refer to the End-to-End Walks page for more detailed information.

Registration terms and conditions

All walks are subject to you wearing appropriate clothing. Prime considerations are warmth and weather protection. Your safety and the safety of the walking group can be jeopardised by you wearing inappropriate clothing. In an emergency situation it can take hours to evacuate a sick or injured walker. Leaders may not accept people for a walk who have not come appropriately dressed or prepared.

View details of appropriate clothing at https://heysentrail.asn.au/walking-the-heysen-trail/prepare-to-walk-the-trail/what-to-wear-and-bring/

In the event of hot weather, the decision to proceed with or cancel a walk is made by the Walk Leader(s), having regard to risk factors such as local weather conditions, trail accessibility, vehicle support, and the physical capabilities of walkers in the group. In some circumstances, the Walk Leader may decide to amend, modify or shorten a scheduled walk. If a single-day End-to-End walk is cancelled, walk fees will be refunded. Refunds do not apply to weekend-away walks and multi-day events.

If unforeseen circumstances arise and you are no longer able to participate in the walk, please cancel your registration as soon as possible using the Manage Walk Registrations facility on your Account page.

Alternatively you can notify the office by 2.15pm on the last business day before the walk. Walk leaders do not have access to messages left on the answering machine after this time. If your Walk Leader has provided their mobile phone number you may be able to contact them prior to the walk (subject to phone service availability).
