We visited yesterday on a reconnaissance trip. Camping is currently permitted at $5 per night. As per rule number 2 on the information board and previous comments here, I called to enquire about tenting and was happy to learn that there is no problem with Heysen Trail walkers pitching a tent here. However, I think it’s still courteous to call first.
Sun 23/5/21. Quite a good spot to camp. We rang the day before and Brian gave us the run down on dos and dont’s if you are in a tent which were all ok. Although there were alot of vans and campervans there it was very quiet and peaceful. Fantastic cafe, El Estanco very close and the pub was good too. Very clean and new toilet block with good clean water.
I’d like to pull up with a fully self contained caravan at Greenock on the night of Feb 21st 2021. Does anyone know if this is possible?
Keith,
That is really outside our area of knowledge. Certainly through hikers can pitch a tent.
i think you need to make this enquiry to Light Regional Council who manage those sorts of facilities in their region
Julian
Good morning, can you let me know whether we can camp here. Looking to do this mid Feb.
Many thanks Carmen Stirling
Hi Carmen,
Much of the Heysen Trail is closed over the Fire Danger Season – for Greenock that goes through to the end of April 2021. However this campsite is operated by the Light Regional Council. i have updated our website to include this link (which includes a contact number) : https://www.light.sa.gov.au/discover/points-of-interest/greenock-centenary-park.
There is currently signage indicating that tenting by the oval is banned, seemingly due to COVID. There are public toilets in the oval pavilion where you can also get water.
Thanks Paddy – a Maintenance team will be visiting Greenock in the week commencing 17/8/20, so we will check out the sign.
Hey there, any word on whether camping is now permitted here? Planning to be there on the 19th
Elliott, a through walker recently reported that he spoke to the manager and it’s OK for Heysen Trail walkers to camp, though I gather the signage says no camping. That report came through via Guthooks on 8th September 2020. Another walker camped there the same day. Julian
