Facilities
The rejuvenated gateway, stone circle seating and planting mounds developed by The Friends of Heysen Trail volunteers opened in September 2024. It also includes a water tank and Adnyamathanha interpretive signage. This is a rest area only - no camping.
Water supply is sometimes overused due to the adjacent road, carpark and 4WD drivers. Hikers may need to walk 500 metres south to the Parachilna Gorge Hikers campsite to find more readily available water.

Plenty of water both at the trail head and the walk in site
7/7/21water tank approx 2/3 full. We ended up camping here for our last night, Day 66 on the trail. Great sunset and sunrise! Walked to Parachilna, 14 klms tge next day.
Congratulations on completing the trail.
Please get in touch with the FOHT office …. we would be pleased to issue certificates to mark your achievement.
Also…
Thank you for the comments you have provided to the trail re water tank content etc.
On 14/9/2019 the tank at the trailhead next to the road was empty. The tank at the Parachilna heysen campsite was also empty.
Paused here on 15th July ’19 to say that at long last I have finished the 1200km Heysen Trail. Plenty of information signs regarding the area plus info regarding the Heysen Trail. The water tank was over half full. I then had to walk another 13km to the Pairie Hotel in Parachilna.
