The trail has been re-routed at the northern end of the Yourambulla Range to avoid an area of aboriginal significance.

Trail Status

Some sections of the Heysen Trail are open, and others are opening soon due to the finish of the Fire Danger Season. This is a transition time when the Fire Danger Season ends, and sections of the Trail are reopening depending on the Fire Ban District dates. Current trail status:

between Kings Beach (WSCW) and Tanunda in the Barossa Valley: The Fire Danger Season in the Mt Lofty Ranges will end on 14 May.
between Tanunda in the Barossa Valley and Wirrabara Forest: The Fire Danger Season in the Mid North will end on April 30th.
between Wirrabara Forest and Parachilna in the Flinders Ranges: The Fire Danger Season in the Flinders ended on April 15th.
