On SATURDAY 16th OCTOBER

A terrific though challenging walk starting with a testing climb out of Horrocks Pass to the ridgetop followed by an undulating exposed traverse over gibber-littered hills and farmlands at times providing some stunning views over the Willochra Plains to the east and occasionally over Spencer Gulf to the west. At the end of the walk there is almost 3 klms walk-out from the Trail through farmlands back to our cars.

On SUNDAY 17th OCTOBER

Commencing with a brilliant little climb over Lavender Peak, aptly named after principal architect of the Heysen Trail, to get the heart pumping prior to a tricky descent to the picturesque Stony Creek campsite. From there the trail crisscrosses the creek(which at times has proven to be a challenge to cross), follows tracks, backroads and a final undulating walk adjacent to the busy highway through Horrocks Pass to finish at the memorial to explorer John Horrocks.

Walk difficulty: End-to-End 11

These walks are for those wishing to walk some or all of the Heysen Trail. There are approximately sixty day walks involved, spread over six years. The southern walks, from Cape Jervis to Kapunda, are held on one Sunday per month during the walk season. Due to the greater travelling distances involved, from Kapunda northwards, the walk is held over a weekend.

These arrangements make it easy to walk the entire trail because the Friends of Heysen Trail work out many of the logistics.

These walks are reasonably demanding and for walkers who have walked regularly in various terrain. They have a walking time of about 5 to 6 hours and will require a high degree of physical fitness.

Refer to the End-to-End Walks page for more detailed information.
