What to expect

A slow walk to enjoy the rugged cliffs and bushland of Newland Head C.P.

Starting the walk on a section of The Heysen Trail we reach the rugged headlands of the park, where with weather permitting there will be spectacular views along the coast line. This is the time for whale watching, will we be lucky to spot one? The rocky undulating tracks has us in and out of valleys, surrounded by coastal vegetation to climb again to view the sea. This section of the walk requires the ability to be able to climb up and down steep and rocky hills.

Leaving the coast behind we walk inland, with wide open views of farming land on the right and bushland to the left. A sharp turn takes us into the bush, with wattle trees and many other flowering wildflowers. In this area we will be looking for orchids which are often spotted here. Continuing through the park we return to the Heysen Trail and return to the cars.

If the weather is bad on the day, the walk will not go to the coast, it will stay inland and will only be around 7km.

If the forecast temperature for Adelaide is equal or higher than 32C, walks are cancelled. For simplicity, this can be determined the night prior to the walk from the 7.00 pm ABC News Adelaide weather forecast, based upon the Bureau of Meteorology’s routine 4pm forecast.

Your Walk Leader will send an email to all walkers advising the walk is cancelled. We suggest you check your emails before leaving to join the walk. Even if the forecast temperature is later revised, the walk remains cancelled. In such a case walk fees will be refunded.
