Nurragi Conservation Reserve

What to expect

The Nurragi Conservation Reserve is along the former Sandigrove to Milang railway line, an offshoot of the Adelaide to Victor Harbor line, that operated between 1884 and 1970. It is now a nature corridor that reflects early railway history in the state and provides for a very pleasant walk. For the railway buffs the trail terminates at the Heritage Milang Railway Yard and Museum that will open shortly before we will be due to arrive.

Lunch will be at the end of the walk.  There is a bakery close to the end if you fancy buying yourself lunch.

BIOSECURITY MEASURES – Please ensure you thoroughly clean your footwear, clothing, walking poles and other equipment before and after each walk to remove all seeds, dirt and other debris. Removed seeds should be bagged and disposed in a ‘to landfill’ garbage bin.

Walk difficulty: Trail Starter

The aim of these walks is to introduce people to bushwalking, for those who are not regular walkers and those who have not walked in a group previously or who want a shorter walk. TrailStarter walks are usually close to Adelaide, have a walk time of about 3 to 4 hours and will generally be not too physically demanding. Anyone undertaking these walks may have only a modest degree of physical fitness. These walks generally occur on Saturdays or Sundays.

Hazards

There could be slippery spots particularly after rain. Cross a couple of back roads and one busier

Requirements

You are required to wear appropriate footwear and clothing to suit the forecast. Bring a personal first aid kit, morning tea, lunch (unless you plan a visit to the bakery), snacks, electrolytes. 2-3 litres of water. Always carry a raincoat, head torch and emergency blanket and wear a smile.

Experience

Trail Starter. It is a flat trail so ideal for new walkers, but experienced walkers will enjoy it as well.

Registration terms and conditions

All walks are subject to you wearing appropriate clothing. Prime considerations are warmth and weather protection. Your safety and the safety of the walking group can be jeopardised by you wearing inappropriate clothing. In an emergency situation it can take hours to evacuate a sick or injured walker. Leaders may not accept people for a walk who have not come appropriately dressed or prepared.

If the forecast temperature for Adelaide is equal or higher than 32C, walks are cancelled. For simplicity, this can be determined the night prior to the walk from the 7.00 pm ABC News Adelaide weather forecast, based upon the Bureau of Meteorology’s routine 4pm forecast.

Your Walk Leader will send an email to all walkers advising the walk is cancelled. We suggest you check your emails before leaving to join the walk. Even if the forecast temperature is later revised, the walk remains cancelled. In such a case walk fees will be refunded.

If unforeseen circumstances arise and you are no longer able to participate in the walk, please cancel your registration as soon as possible using the Manage Walk Registrations facility on your Account page.

Alternatively you can notify the office by 2.15pm on the last business day before the walk. Walk leaders do not have access to messages left on the answering machine after this time. If your Walk Leader has provided their mobile phone number you may be able to contact them prior to the walk (subject to phone service availability).
