Walk The Yorke Corny Point to Gym Beach

What to expect

Car pooling will be used over the two days of hiking.

Day one: Section one Corny Point to Gleeson Landing (20.5 km)

The trail from Corny Point to Gleeson Landing continues our experience of pristine beaches, rugged cliffs, sand dunes, rock formations and sandy roads. We may encounter piles of seaweed, an experience not to be missed, until we hit a dirt track that takes us up to the Corny Point lighthouse. This lighthouse is still in operation with ruins from previous staff accommodation cottages nearby. We continue our walk to Grieg Lookout where we may encounter seals and another iconic lighthouse. From here we walk to Berry Bay North, a well know surf beach with plenty of rock hopping opportunities enclosed by the water and cliffs. This sets the scene for our final section to Gleeson Landing.

Day two: Section two Gleeson Landing to Gym Beach (22 km)

If you like camping, this area is perfect for the weekend get-away with cliff top views, progressing to Daly Head where we will encounter rugged dirt tracks, sand dunes and rocky cliffs. We continue along the cliff tops to Formby Bay followed by a 7km beach walk. Climbing wooden stairs, we head into the dunes (a perfect lunch stop) where we need to keep alert for trail markers that take up to the head land of Gym Beach.

BIOSECURITY MEASURES – Please ensure you thoroughly clean your footwear, clothing, walking poles and other equipment before and after each walk to remove all seeds, dirt and other debris. Removed seeds should be bagged and disposed in a ‘to landfill’ garbage bin.

If the forecast temperature for Adelaide is equal or higher than 32C, walks are cancelled. For simplicity, this can be determined the night prior to the walk from the 7.00 pm ABC News Adelaide weather forecast, based upon the Bureau of Meteorology’s routine 4pm forecast.

Your Walk Leader will send an email to all walkers advising the walk is cancelled. We suggest you check your emails before leaving to join the walk. Even if the forecast temperature is later revised, the walk remains cancelled. In such a case walk fees will be refunded.

If unforeseen circumstances arise and you are no longer able to participate in the walk, please cancel your registration as soon as possible using the Manage Walk Registrations facility on your Account page.

Alternatively you can notify the office by 2.15pm on the last business day before the walk. Walk leaders do not have access to messages left on the answering machine after this time. If your Walk Leader has provided their mobile phone number you may be able to contact them prior to the walk (subject to phone service availability).
