Fees

$25 per campsite per night, maximum of 8 persons to a site.
When booking online select the ‘I am a hiker/cyclist/school’ option in the drop down menu. Enter HIKER as the vehicle registration number.

    Camped here for our last night on the trail before walking to the trailhead at Parachilna Gorge. Started in Cape Jervis on 4th May. Really lovely campsite, plenty of water and a few toilets. Other campers spoilt us with bundles of firewood and beer!

    Camped on 1 Sep on our 6 day walk to Hawker. Great camp site and the spring water was excellent. The 2 water tanks I checked had good water in them

    Stayed here on 14th July ’19. Plenty of open spaces to erect tent. Water in tanks drinkable as from taps that use spring water. Plenty of other campers present who I chatted to by their fires. Great views looking westwards at the Heysen Ranges especially early morning. My last night on the trail and nearly at the end of the Trail to complete the 1200km trek.

    regarding hiker camping fees of $9 per hiker, or booking a campsite at Aroona for $15, National Parks South Australia advised the following on 22nd June 2017 via facebook:
    I have investigated this with the fees and bookings team. They advise me that you can book a campsite, as normal through the online booking system.
    – When it asked you if you need to add vehicle entry choose ‘I do not need to purchase a vehicle entry permit’.
    – Then in the vehicle registration field enter the word ‘HIKER’
    This will enable you to book a campsite without needing to pay the additional vehicle entry charge. You can have as many people in this site, as is specified in the campsite description, when booking (usually 8) rather than paying per person.

    The ruins are very interesting. As noted, the camping area is well laid out. Interestingly, fees per hiker/cyclist, are now $8 per night, but a vehicle with 12 people in only pays $14. How fair is that?
    SA parks, does produce a walker/ cyclist park pass that costs $50. ($90 for a vehicle)

    Camped here 25/5/15. Great spot. Drinkable spring water piped to taps throughout campsite. Several rainwater tanks in campsite had plenty of water plus larger tank at Aroona hut with plenty in it. Looks like parks have removed the rubbish bins. Hiker camp fees $7/ night.

    I passed this campsite on April 23rd with Rover Scouts during the last day of hiking from where the trail crosses the Hawker-Parachilna Road to the Parachilna Gorge trailhead (7 days/125ish km.)

    The large rainwater tank on the main hut (which has a HUGE roof) was full. I didn’t check any of the tanks in the campground on the toilets etc.

    Camped here Easter 2007, good campsite, about a dozen camping areas well spread out, only a handful of campers, spring water fed to taps to sites, spring water was strong yellow colour though. Beautiful valley, fantastic sunrises
