Now is the time to add the latest changes to the Heysen Trail to your GPS unit. Download the latest version of the Heysen Trail gpx file version 5.3.
This is a further update to the downloadable GPX file and Interactive Map to add some minor features to the versions 5.1 & 5.2 released since July this year.
Version 5.1 included a significant change – the Georgetown reroute (Mapsheet 5A) which was marked in November 2025. That is a major temporary reroute due the the construction of an extensive wind farm and solar installation east of Georgetown.
Temporary reroutes are not normally added to the Heysen Trail gpx files, but this is an exception as the project is expected to affect the trail for at least 2 more years.
Due to the closure of Section 35, (Curnows Hut to Raeville) for the duration of the reroute, the section no longer appears in the Interactive map legend.
Version 5.2 and now version 5.3 include some relatively minor changes involving the end point for Walk Section 45 and to correct issues with the downloadable KML file for use on Google Earth.
You can view the full history of GPS file releases here.
The Trail Distance table has also be updated to reflect the Georgetown reroute.
The gpx downloads links on the Maps page now allow members to download each of the 8 Mapsheets, as well as the whole trail.
