With the largest supermarkets and other services, the towns of Victor Harbor, Bridgewater, Tanunda, Kapunda, Burra, Crystal Brook and Quorn make ideal towns to focus major resupply needs on.

CAPE JERVIS

on the trail (Sthn Guide map 1.1, HT Sheet Map 1A), population less than 290

Cape JervisCape Jervis is a ferry town, the ferry connecting the mainland with Kangaroo Island. The southern trailhead of the Heysen Trail starts from near the SeaLink ferry terminal.

The public daily bus service between Adelaide and Cape Jervis is operated by Link SA phone (08) 8555 2500. It also links to the transport hubs at Seaford, Colonades and Marion and to Victor Harbor. The timetable for these services is shown here.

There is also a twice daily bus service between Adelaide and Cape Jervis operated by Sealink Ferries, visit www.sealink.com.au or phone 13 13 01. The timetable for this service is shown here. The morning bus to Cape Jervis and the evening return bus to Adelaide are restricted to holders of a ferry ticket.

VICTOR HARBOR

Victor HarborVictor Harbor is a regional centre and tourist seaside town located near the Heysen Trail. The trail passes within several hundred metres of the outskirts of Encounter Bay, a suburb of Victor Harbor. It is 7km from near the intersection of Jagger and Kings Beach Roads north-east to the city centre, walking along the foreshore from the Bluff. Alternatively follow the coast from Kings Beach to the Bluff then the foreshore. Being 70km from the trailhead at Cape Jervis, and 130km to Bridgewater in the north, Victor Harbor is an ideal town to restock.

THE CEDARS

The CedarsThe Cedars is on the spur trail to Hahndorf. It was the home and studio of the famous painter Sir Hans Heysen. Still owned by the Heysen family, the gracious old home, studio and 150 acre grounds are open to the public.

HahndorfHahndorf is a German settlement dating from 1839, it is popular with tourists and features many bed & breakfast and motel accommodation options. Mt Barker is a major outlying town close to Adelaide, it is 7km south-east of the spur trail to Hahndorf, or 13km south-east of the main Heysen Trail at Bridgewater. Adelaide Metro public bus route 864 operates between bus stops 53 to 56 main street, Hahndorf, and stop 65 (terminus) Mt Barker, approx every 30 minutes Mon-Sat and every hour on Sundays. SummertownThe small town of Summertown is located 1.4km east of the Heysen Trail along Greenhill Rd. Cudlee CreekThe small town is divided into two separate areas, one at Gorge Rd on the main trail, the other at Gorge Rd at the end of the spur trail. 2km of narrow, winding main road separates the two areas, although not direct use of the Heysen Trail route is recommended. There is a bus service between Adelaide and Mt Pleasant or Mt Torrens, stopping at Cudlee Creek, operating up to 4 times a day, 7 days a week, operated by Link SA, Ph: (08) 8564 3022.

TANUNDA

TanundaA tourist town nestled in the wine growing region of the Barossa Valley. With Bridgewater 130km in the south, and Kapunda 30km in the north and Burra 130km beyond that, Tanunda’s large supermarket and range of services makes it an ideal place to restock.

There is a bus service between Adelaide and Angaston, stopping at Tanunda, operating up to 4 times a day, 7 days a week, operated by Link SA, Ph: (08) 8415 5579.

With Crystal Brook 185km to the south, and the Parachilna trailhead 230km to the north, Quorn has the last supermarket on the Heysen Trail as it heads north making it the ideal base to restock.

There is a weekly bus service between Adelaide and Copley, stopping at Quorn, operated by Genesis Transport & Removals, phone (08) 8552 4000.  There is also a bus service between Peterborough and Port Augusta (with connections to Adelaide), stopping at Wilmington and Quorn, operating once a week, operated by Yorke Peninsula Coaches, phone (08) 8666 2255.
