Description

This is a multi day walk. If you only wish to walk on one day, please contact the office once registrations open.

Saturday Walk 39: Mt Zion to The Bluff Lookout – 22kms

For most of this section the trail follows gravel roads and a rollercoaster firetrack through natural bushland towards the TV tower at The Bluff where walkers are rewarded with spectacular views of the gulf and beyond.

Some of the descents along the fire track have loose gravel and can be slippery.

Sunday Walk 40: The Bluff Lookout to White Park Road - 19 kms

This provides a very diverse range of scenery. After re-joining the Trail, walkers again follow the ridgeline along fire access tracks through the dense natural scrub of the Telowie Gorge Conservation Park and enjoy views over Port Germein and across the gulf to Whyalla and Port Bonython. After turning off and descending steeply from the ridgeline the Trail follows Sheepyard Track ascending to Rocky Ridge then turning north through old harvested pine forest allowing expansive views to the Gulf, following a steep climb to Sugargum Lookout.

Some of the descents along the fire track have loose gravel and can be slippery.

The trail continues following the Wirrabara Greenway through a private property to walk end.

Walk Difficulty – The Heysen Trail walks are demanding and suitable for experienced walkers who have walked regularly in various terrain consisting of long-distance trails with some steep inclines/declines, irregular surface with loose uneven, slippery base. They have a walking time of about 5 to 7 hours and will require a good degree of physical fitness.

BIOSECURITY MEASURES – Please ensure you thoroughly clean your footwear, clothing, walking poles and other equipment before and after each walk to remove all seeds, dirt and other debris. Removed seeds should be bagged and disposed in a ‘to landfill’ garbage bin.
