14/6/21 this was a great little campsite. A bit hard to find as there is nothing there but loads of birds and trees. Only problem is no water,so needs to be carried from Crystal Brook which is weighty. There is a farm approx 1.5 klms before campsite with loads of water tanks (can’t miss it) and they are happy to help with a little water.
Wanting to walk from bluff to Beetaloo Reservoir tomorrow 24th May. Can anyone tell me how far it is please and how long it would take
Interactive Maps says its 16.4km using the Heysen Trail south and then the Centre Track east. Timing is 3h 10m, which I believe is very optimistic – I would say between 4 and 5 hours, depending on the weight of any gear you are carrying, because it is quite a roller coaster along the ridge heading south from the Bluff. Hi Bernadette. It is approx 18kms, but as I don’t know your capabilities, I’m reluctant to say how long it would take. The FoHT End to End walkers would expect to cover the Mills Rd (Mt Zion) to the Bluff/TV Tower section in about 5 hours (but that is walking with a large group).

The tank at the Beetaloo campsite is damaged due to a tree having fallen on it. Due to COVID-19 measures our Trail Development volunteers are not able to access the site to repair it. Do not rely on water supplies at this location.

20/9/2018 Camped overnight the water was tannin but drinkable. I filtered all the water on the walk.

walked into camp and checked water. looked like ink and tank was very low. NOT MUCH WATER at all had enough water to camp 10 km down track, and had to get water at go cart track shelter. water crystal clear and no problems
Stayed here on 16th May ’18. Water was plentiful though I chose not to drink it as it was discoloured and quite black. Repairs have been made to the tank. Luckily I had chosen to carry extra water.
Site now open. Camped here night I of 17/9/15. As I walked in, met another hiker from
Opp. direction. First I have met. Nice little spot. Water discoloured. Outflow pipe melted and uncovered. Water tasted ok. Tank full.
Campsite was burnt out in last fires. Tank/ shelter survived due to being steel, over flow pipe melted. Tank is full but water is discoloured.. tanins or fire ash. Tastes fine. Camped here 8/5/15, I think. This was currently 2-3km off the re route which heads to Laura. Laura is a nice town good CVP, café, pub, small supermarket,. Could not find gas there.
