History
Friends of Heysen Trail volunteers undertook major refurbishment during 2018 and 2019, including replacing the ceiling, painting, providing new benches, a combustion heater. A new stainless steel sink (courtesy of a community grant from Energy Australia) replaced the tired 1950’s kitchen sink.
FOHT Trail Development team visited the hut on 8/4/2022. Water level in Hut tank was 100% and Toilet tank approx 90%.
18 September 2019 – The two tankl appear to be at approximately 90% capacity. Plenty of water here. Water quality is good.
01 August 2019 – The two tanks at Hallett Railway Station appear to be at, or near capacity. Water quality for the large tank is good. The small tank smells and tastes ok, but appeared with a little colour and some grit in it. This would possibly have cleared if I took the time to run the tap a little longer. Given the small tank is plumbed to the kitchen sink, the water quality may not be quite as important. Due to the size of the large tank, I don’t think water is a problem at Hallett.
What a well presented hut! Someone has invested effort and money recently into this hut and it shows! The main room (kitchen?) had a pot belly stove that really works fantastic and there was a supply of wood stacked inside. The stainless sink is new and there are even supplies at the moment – candles on the table, sponges, detergents & paper towels. Even better, there is a solar battery / led light which worked a treat to charge my phone! The outhouse is clean and well sealed and even had hand sanitiser in it. They’ve installed motion detected solar lightning at the entrance which helps when coming in from the pub in the dark.
They’ve also installed signboards about the local history. No vermin. Five Star!
Thank you FOTH and community of Hallett. You are legends!

27/9/2018 Stayed overnight in hut, a nice stay. The lady from the service station supplied some wood for the stove. Water was OK.
Enjoyed my night here on 25/9/15. Need to jiggle the padlock a bit. All road from whistling trig camp. Tanks full.
