Kyeema

The dense native bushland of Kyeema Conservation Park, the plantations of Kuitpo Forest and pretty back roads make this a pleasant walk, especially in winter.

The Kaurna people are the traditional owners of the land this part of the Trail traverses and have Native Title rights in the area.

Dashwood Gully

This picturesque walk takes you through gently undulating farmland, the northern parts of Kuitpo Pine Forest and through a significant site in South Australia’s gold rush history, the Jupiter Creek Goldfields.

Mylor

Although this is the most populated section of the Trail it retains a rural feel as you pass through the parks and bushland of Bridgewater, Mount George Conservation Park, Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens and Cleland National Park.

Cleland

This spectacular section of the Trail passes through the native bushland of Cleland National Park, Horsnell Gully and Morialta Conservation Parks and along pleasant roadsides, giving you the opportunity to take in spectacular views over Adelaide and the Hills.

Montacute Heights

After an initial road walk the Trail makes a very long and steep descent to Sixth Creek before climbing again through Montacute Conservation Park and Mount Crawford Forest Reserve.

The section between the Montacute Conservation Park and Snake Gully Road (Cudlee Creek) was devastated by bushfires in 2019. Fortunately the vegetation is gradually returning and you’ll enjoy a pleasant walk past pretty private gardens along Holland Creek Road as you complete your walk.

Cudlee Creek

Along this part of the Trail you’ll be led through the rolling hills of the Southern Mount Lofty Ranges and sections of Mount Crawford Forest. You’ll enjoy outstanding views as you climb towards Mount Gould.

The Nugget Rd

On this picturesque and varied walk you’ll pass through several sections of Mount Crawford pine forest and the natural bushland of Warren Conservation Park and Little Mount Crawford.

Mt Crawford

After climbing Mount Crawford you’ll follow forest edges and roadsides before making your way up and over the pretty Wirra Wirra Peaks. From the Peaks you’ll take a diverse path along creek lines, roads and road reserves through open big-gum grazing land.

Pewsey Vale

This is an easy section of the Trail that runs through the northern part of Mount Crawford Forest and through the native bushland of Kaiser Stuhl Conservation Park with its unusual weathered rock features. You’ll see panoramic vistas over the Barossa Valley and the Lower North.

Tanunda

You’ll travel along back roads and road reserves past iconic Barossa Valley vineyards and wineries. The small town of Greenock is a gateway into the cropping and grazing land of the Lower North and you’ll have a long but mainly flat walk with pleasant vistas and changing seasonal colours. The section finishes at Kapunda Town Square where you’ll be within easy walking distance of bakeries and pubs.
