Nature Foundation SA is holding its annual Walk for Nature on Sunday 21st October 2012 with a 3, 6 or 12km return walk along the Heysen Trail from Bridgewater Oval to Woodhouse Activity Centre. Join in to help them raise funds to conserve, restore and sustainably manage South Australia’s wildlife and environment.

Wanted: Trail Planners

WalkingSA is seeking input from walkers interested in assisting in the planning of a network of five loop trails in the Kersbrook area.

Funding has been secured for the project, in collaboration with Forestry SA and the Adelaide Hills Council, for the surveying, mapping and signage of the trails. Walkers with knowledge of suitable routes in the area and/or navigational skills will be required.

An information session will be held on Tuesday 19 June, commencing at 10am, at the Walking SA offices, 5 Fitzgerald Rd, Pasadena. Andrew Moylan from Forestry SA and John Eaton, Trails Technical Unit, will address the technical needs of data collection recording. Survey areas will then be assigned to participants present. A light lunch will be provided for attendees at the conclusion of the meeting.

Free Talk: 30 Years in Bushcare

The Friends of Waite Conservation Park are hosting a guest speaker, Andrew Crompton, who will conduct a free illustrated talk about 30 years in bushcare… & still lots to learn.

Andrew if one of Adelaide’s most knowledgeable and experienced people working in revegetation and bushcare. He will draw on his lifetime of working experiences and share his practical skills developed in the ecological restoration of his own patch of grassy woodland at Mt Barker.

Eradication & Survey Volunteer Opportunity

A cactus eradication & fauna survey in Swan Reach Conservation Park will be undertaken for five days at the end of May.

The aims include:

  • Find & drill/fill or remove Mexican Wheel Cactus & identify other feral plants
  • Count wild goats & any other feral animals – photograph for identification
  • Carry out Mallee Fowl Mound survey and Stone Curlew count
  • Survey wombats – particularly identify if losing fur

Monday 28 May to Friday 1 June, 2012.

Come for a day or the whole week, accommodation available.

Coordinated by the Mid-Murray Local Action Planning Association (Mid Murray LAP) and the South Australian Murray-Darling Basin Natural Resources Management Board (SAMDBNRM).
