Plan to realign the Heysen Trail through the Flinders Ranges

The Department for Environment and Heritage is seeking input on a Draft Trail Master Plan for the Flinders Ranges National Park. Included in this draft master plan is the realignment of much of the Heysen Trail that passes throught the park to separate it from the Mawson Trail, avoid maintenance roads, pass through key features of the park and create new dedicated hike-in campsites.

The proposed trail network consists of 165 kms of trails across the park. This is based on closure or downgrading of 40.6 kms of the existing trail network (predominantly walking trails) and the development of 72kms of new trail.

The draft master plan can be viewed in the Latest News section of the DEH website.
