Re-route of the Heysen Trail affecting Map 2.9, June 2012
This is a temporary re-route
View pdf map showing re-route
This is an amendment to the temporary re-route which was installed in early May 2012, through in Kuitpo Forest, near Christmas Hill, south of the Kuitpo Forest Information Centre. Due to intensive harvesting operations, the trail has been re-routed via Brookman Road (the main bitumen road). Signs are in place at either end of the re-route. You should obey re-route signs on the trail. We will remove this re-route note from our website when we are advised by Forestry SA that the original trail is safe to continue on through the forest.

The Heysen Trail Green Team Turns the first sod
The Greening Commmittee had its first field day at Hiskeys Hut, planting over 100 trees, appropriate to the area. This is part of a much bigger project by the group to plant more than 200 trees around the hut.
As can be seen, it certainly needs it.
Great work from the Greening crew, Graham Bald, Steve Clift, Robyn Quinn and Neil Nosworthy.
The Greening Committee can always do with more members so it can spread its wings. If you would like to be part of this dynamic new group, contact the Friends’ office Ph 82126299.
Wanted: Trail Planners
WalkingSA is seeking input from walkers interested in assisting in the planning of a network of five loop trails in the Kersbrook area.
Funding has been secured for the project, in collaboration with Forestry SA and the Adelaide Hills Council, for the surveying, mapping and signage of the trails. Walkers with knowledge of suitable routes in the area and/or navigational skills will be required.
An information session will be held on Tuesday 19 June, commencing at 10am, at the Walking SA offices, 5 Fitzgerald Rd, Pasadena. Andrew Moylan from Forestry SA and John Eaton, Trails Technical Unit, will address the technical needs of data collection recording. Survey areas will then be assigned to participants present. A light lunch will be provided for attendees at the conclusion of the meeting.
RSVP to Walking SA by 14 June, office@walkingsa.org.au or phone (08) 8276 5090.

The Heysen Trail east of the Deep Creek Waterfall has been re-routed to avoid an eroded, steep section of the trail. Hiking east, the 2.1km re-route begins immediately south of the waterfall. Where the trail used to turn east and head up a steep hill, the trail now continues along the creek, contouring around the hill to rejoin the main trail approximately 1km to the east.

Walk Leaders Training Day
The annual Walk Leaders Training Day was held at the Woodville Lawn Bowling Club today, with about thirty leaders and prospective leaders attending.
They were entertained with presentations by Arrienne Wynen (Walk Committee Chair) Jerry Foster, Simon Cameron and Julian Monfries.
It was a time for current leaders to refresh and for potential leaders to learn the Friends requirements of walk leaders and to perhaps, entice them into leading some walks.
It was also a chance for leaders to get together and exchange information and experiences.

First Trailwalker – survival of the fit and not so fit
The first Trailwalker for 2012 set a tough standard. Steve Clift lead (mostly from mid-pack) his group up and down the tough hills and valleys of Cuddle Creek to Sixth Creek, via Mt Misery, and return. 23km of tough terrain, spiced with views and animal sightings. A long day with one retirement. A few tired legs (& bodies) arrived back to the cars some time after the E2E5 group, still looking fit after their slight detour, had passed by on their first walk of 2012. Well done walkers – just hope you all recover to walk again next week! Some pics at
