Tassie Members Complete Mini Heysen Trek
Jenny Benn and David Sands, two of our Tasmanian members, have completed almost a month on the Trail.
They walked from Kapunda to Cape Jervis, using a variety of B and B’s, camping out and some luxury hotel accommodation (if you could call the Victor Harbor Hotel luxury). The walk took them from 3rd September to 1st October and from the various SMS messages and phone conversations they had a great time, albeit wet on occasions.
Loved the Trail, the variety, struggled up the hills, were almost blown away at Mount Cone.
Overall they thought the Trail in great shape.
Flinders 3D documentary sceening again

End-to-End 2 Completes the Trail
Yesterday afternoon the End-to-End 2 group reached the end of the Heysen Trail at Parachilna Gorge. For 9 of the 50 hikers it was the culmination of many years of hard work as they completed the entire trail.
The group had hiked from Red Range, just south of Wilpena Pound, to the end of the trail over the past 7 days.
Last night they had a celebratory dinner at The Woolshed restaurant at Rawnsley Park, paying tribute to those that completed the trail and those that helped them along the way.

VISITORS to Adelaide this approaching spring have a unique treat in store: the Art Gallery of South Australia is mounting an exhibition of the work of a favourite son, Wilhelm Ernst Hans Franz Heysen.
HONOURING the contribution to the way Hans Heysen opened our eyes and hearts to the Australian landscape is the Heysen Trail, one of the world’s great walking experiences. Not that Heysen actually walked it as the trail didn’t exist as an entity in his time. From its starting point 100km south of Adelaide at Cape Jervis, it passes through Heysen’s favourite, and most often painted, regions in the Adelaide Hills and up to his beloved Flinders Ranges.

Anaconda – Mile End Sat 9th August
The friends will have a display and stall at the Mile End carpark on Saturday, outside the Anaconda shop. Its their birthday, so we were invited, along with few other groups, to promote ourselves. If youâre passing pls drop in to say hello to David, Peter, Manuela, Dawn, Mary or Wendy. If not â drive over to say hello, and check out the specials.
2nd FoHT Kokoda Report
I had a call from John Potter this afternoon. The group are all safe and well in Port Moresby. Arrived this afternoon as scheduled – after a 4.30am rise this morning.
His comments –
• A much drier track than for the previous group.
• Found it tough yet a great experience. Enjoyed it greatly.
• Kevin Liddiard said it was toughest thing he’s ever done.
• Were 6 "girls" and 8 "boys" in the group.
• Leader was a younger lady whom John took a shine too. (at least it sounded that way)
• Good socialising with card playing at night.
• Had v little rain – no coats needed while walking.
• John took 300 photos.
And of course – Simon played bagpipes on a number of occasions.
Flinders 3D Documentary
A 3D documentary is currently screening at IRIS Cinema (located in the Mercury Cinema) featuring the Flinders Ranges – Arkaroola, Wilpena and the Pinnacles near Quorn.
All advertised sessions have sold out, however there are a few extra sessions available on Tuesday 8 July, and demand pending a session on Wednesday 9 July.

End-to-End 3 Schedule Changed
Due to road closures for a RallySA event on the weekend of July 27, the schedule for End-to-End 3 has been changed. The dates remain the same, but the sections walked have been swapped around:
• Sun 27 July: now Tanunda to Kapunda
• Sun 24 Aug: now Mt Crawford to Pewsey Vale
• Sun 28 Sept: now Pewsey Vale to Tanunda
Pioneer Women’s Trail on ABC891
This morning on the ABC891 breakfast show, John Kenneally and Tony McCarthy discussed the Pioneer Women’s Trail with Anni Luur Fox, from the Hahndorf branch of the National Trust. The Friends will be hiking the trail this Sunday, 29 June.

Re-route map now available
Further to this news item reproduced below, titled "Upgrade of 4km of trail through Deep Creek", which originally appeared on Tues 8th April, the map of this re-route between Tapanappa and Boat Harbor Beach is now available on the re-routes page. It affects Map 1.3 of both the new and old Southern Guidebooks.
Trail Upgrade Opens
By Lisa BachmayerWalkers will this weekend be able to plant their footprints on the upgraded four-kilometre stretch of the Heysen Trail in Deep Creek Conservation Park.
Open this Saturday, the $90,000 upgrade aims to make the badly eroded section of the trail more environmentally sustainable and provide a more spectacular trek for walkers.
The trail previously hugged the coastline and led its walkers up steep hills, causing significant erosion.

The Trailblazer Challenge
The Advertiser Colliers International Trailblazer Challenge is a brilliant community team event that pushes participants to their limits in 18km, 34km, 50km or 100km events. Become part of the fun and join in on Adelaideâs premium adventure event. Staged along the Torrens Linear Park trail, Yurrebilla and Heysen Trails, it is a fully supported event, providing participants with basic food & hydration supplies at checkpoints.

ABC screened a segment on the Sunday Arts programme (ABC1 15/06/08) about an art exhibition focusing on the Heysen Trail.
An eclectic group of established and talented artists will be heading into the wilderness of South Australia to re-trace the Heysen Trail.

Kokoda Trek – Friends #1
The first group of the Friends have now completed the Kokoda Track though not without some casualties.
Fourteen started, however only twelve completed the track, two being lost to broken ankles.
The Track is NOT for the faint-hearted or unfit-it’s hard work-yet the rewards are enormous.
The scenery is fabulous, the people along the track warm, friendly and welcoming, the history tear rending and the MUD sticky and slippery-as the two casualties will testify.

Kokoda Trek – Friends #1
Nearly a year’s training has come to fruition with the first group of the Friends about to head off to trek the Kokoda Track.
Developing fitness and a reliable method of dehydrating food has been high on the list of priorities along with reduction weight, both of the body corporate and the back packs.
Monday 12th May is the start date, stepping off the plane at Kokoda will be the start of a great experience for us and we hope the start of a number of great O/S adventures for the Friends.
